Didion discusses her deeply moving new memoir about her daughter, and her own fears and thoughts about growing old, in her first book since the National Book Award-winning The Year of Magical Thinking. As with that memoir, in her new one, Didion confides and confronts her fears, frailties, and sorrows about her life as she looks back and forward.  In conversation with her nephew Griffin Dunne (After Hours).

"Time passes. Memory fades, memory adjusts, memory conforms to what we think we remember."—Blue Nights

April 13 - Allice Walker: On Activisim
Join Alice Walker--poet, anthologist, activist and Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist--as she discusses our accountability to stop violence around the world. Her new book, Overcoming Speechlessness: A Poet Encounters the Horror in Rwanda, Eastern Congo and Palestine/Israel, is Walker’s reflection on recent trips to these locations and our responsibility as human beings to respond to the violence she witnessed.

We're All Authors

Everyone should have recieved e-mail invitations to be Bastings blog authors. In democratic style, we all have equal rights to the same admin processes.  Feel free to dig in!

I also sent invites to join Google Calendar, because that is the easiest way I can figure to set up a Book Club calendar on this blog.  It will give you access to edit and view events.  The calender is exclusively for our club.

In other news, I added Reading Lolita in Tehran to the Amazon widget (right side of this page).  There was one other book mentioned at our last meeting and for the life of me, I cannot remember the title. Please help!

Welcome to our blog!

Hello Ladies!

This is our very own Book Club blog, where we can continue our conversations, add suggestions, maintain our reading list, and even share recipes.  The format is open.  If you have received your invitation to author this blog, it means you can post whatever you like, whenever you want to.

I have not used this particular platform before, but it seems to be one of the only free systems that allows multiple authors and has a fairly simple administrative panel.  I'm still learning myself, but if you have questions about blogging I'll try to answer them as best I can.  Hopefully their help desk will indeed be helpful.

Welcome and enjoy!

- Hilary
